Monday 28th July 2014 saw the fourth darts masters event of the 2013/14 academic year take place. For the first time, we competed at The White Horse, Silverstone.
As soon as the draw was made, play got underway, with all 9 players battling it out in a round robin, with the aim of qualifying in the top 4 (Mr. Cornelius' results excluded at this point, so the top 4 students qualify).
The format was best of 3, with 2 points awarded for a win. and it was a trio of year 10 students (Craeg Doggett, Tom Carter and Conor Frost getting securing early victories).
The round robin phase lasted just over 5 hours, and concluded with a tense battle for the 4th and final qualifying spot. Three players were in with a chance, as Matt Hunt, Conor Frost and Luke Carr all finished tied on 6 points. It was Conor Frost who was to progress, with a better head-to-head record over Matt, and a superior leg difference over Luke.
Highlights of the day include a quartet of 180s scored in matches (Tom Carter, Craeg Doggett, Scott Cornelius and Luke Carr). The top checkout was a 125 hit by Conor Frost.
In the knockout round, there were two shocks as both the group winner, Jake Bouchier and runner-up, Craeg Doggett, failed to make it to the final. This left Tom Carter to run away a comprehensive 3-0 winner over Conor Frost in the final.
