Sponne School Darts Shield 2013 [19/10/13]
|
The 2013 shield took place on Saturday 19th October, at Rileys Northampton, with 26 students from Sponne School in attendance; with Dan Owens trying to retain the title he won in 2012.
The top eight players from the past 12 months earned the right to be seeded, and were placed into the four groups of the round robin. The remaining 18 players were then randomly drawn, to make two groups of 7, and two groups of 6. Students battled over nearly 5 hours in the group phase, to determine who would make it through to the knockouts. Most groups went down to the wire, most notably in group B, where at the death, Owen Sturgess nicked a win in his last game, to leapfrog Jamie Clark into 2nd place, thus earning a quarter final place. 7 out of 8 seeds made the knockouts, and the top seeds proved their strength, as Daniel Owens (1), Jake Boucher (2), Luke Carr (3), Matt Hunt (6) won through to the semi-finals. The semi-final games saw the top-two 'form' players win through to the final, as both Daniel and Luke won 2-0. The reigning shield champion, Daniel Owens went into the final as favourite, it was Luke Carr who was to claim a 3-1 victory, with steady scoring and clinical finishing on the doubles. Many thanks to all 26 competitors and their families for their support, as well as Rileys for helping us to host the event. |
